Brampton Garden Suite By-Laws

In 2022, the City of Brampton finalized an as-of-right zoning by-law to Implement Additional Residential Units (Second Units and Garden Suites) on properties.

WHAT ARE GARDEN SUITES?

Garden suites are detached secondary dwellings located in the rear yard of a principal residence. They are intended to be a modest-scale separate housing unit that integrates sensitively within existing residential neighbourhoods. Garden Suites in Brampton promise to be a perfect solution to housing loved ones, generating rental income, or gaining additional live-work space, while increasing housing flexibility and value on your property.the value of your property.the value of your property.

SIZE & HEIGHT

In Hamlet, Estate or Agricultural zones, the suite must not be taller than 7.5m in height and a maximum of 80sq.m in size. In all other residential zones, the suite must not be taller than 4.5m and a maximum of 35sq.m in size.

ACCESS & SETBACKS

A 1.2m pedestrian path to the main access of the garden suite is required. 1.8m setbacks are required on the side yard.
